A
report on Cruise Langkawi 2002 is
presently being prepared and event organizers the
Albukhary Foundation especially the Events
& Communications Manager Ron
Mukri Ibrahim must be congratulated for successfully conducting a magnificent
event (with the PM's permission, of course) for 38 International visiting
yachts and a group of influential Arab businessmen promoting the islands
developing marine infrastructure with the splendid eco-tourism opportunities
the 99 Legendary Islands offer.
When the story and photo's are
ready they will appear in this space. Meanwhile check out the itenery
below that went off with out a hitch (except for the downpour at the Sheraton
Perdana evening dinner) and due to the resounding success there are thoughts
to make the event an annual affair.
I hope so as some of the finest
resorts with 5 star facilities and service can be found around the islands
plus putting faces to names of some of the top marine industry players
in the region where the
rich and famous have been known to enjoy their privacy with a bit of good
ole Malaysian hospitality (Michael Schumaker chose a private suite at
the Datai a week before the Malaysian GP) He cycled around the hilly island
and played football with the locals down the beach in the evenings and
is amazed how friendly many of the local kids are
who shyly wave and say
'Hello Mister' to him as he cycled by.
