By AY MultiMedia
January 24th, Batam, Indonesia: If your looking for an open expanse of water, at the peak of the NE monsoon season, to hold a regatta in the Singapore Strait area, go no further than the Nongsa Regatta on Batam Island. This is the 4th edition organised by the Nongsa Point Marina & Resort team, that invites sailors from nearby Singapore and neighbouring regions, to come and test their sailing skills in Indonesian waters and enjoy hospitable resort style living during the regatta. Conveniently the racing takes place just outside of the marina, that has become the Western gateway for entry and departure to Indonesia and enabled them to organise a variety of races and cruises to the 3,000 island Riau archipelago.

The 4th edition continues on with the sailing festival theme and has attracted 9 Singapore yachts bundled into one IRC Class, 27 Male and Female dinghy sailors (17 Optimist & 10 Laser 4.7s) from Indonesia National PORLASI KEPRI and Riau Association, Malaysian states Selangor and Kuantan Associations, plus Indonesia Papua. Also one day of Radio Controlled boat racing to finish off the regatta.

Always keen to improve their sailing skills, the Singapore Management University (SMU) are back in force, with two Platu 25's, Ravipha Nilju skippering SMUVE and Clement Lim on SMUMAD.plus two J24's, Faith Koo on Shengli, and Christian Mark on Quarterdeck, that have won here before.

They will be coming up against some stiff opposition in, Joe Lombardo's Dufour 34 Shardana, Justin Lean's Mumm 30 Invictus and long time supporters of regional regattas, Kurt Metzger's Nelson 10 Waka Tere, Gordon Maxted's Young 88 Shoon Fung Too and Simon Piff's Lauranus L34 Rainbow Dream, are always threatening for the top podium places and have battled it out till the very end, on many occasions.

The Windguru weather forecast is looking great, with the NE'ly trade wind, in the mid to high teens and 20 knot gusts on Sunday.

All sailors big or small, young or old, can expect and should be prepared for some lively and thrilling sailing action.
