AY Race Report 4 & Summary

2018/19 AY Grand Prix Event

Victory for Misty Mountain and SI PSA 2 at Chairman's Cup...
By AY MultiMedia
30th April 2019, Subic Bay, Philippines:
Another beautiful day to end the Chairman's Cup with. Two windward/leeward races for both the IRC and FarEast 28R One-Design Classes, was the order of the day. All the yachts were out on the race course and eager to finish off the series in grand style. Although Noel Chan's HH42 Rampage II regained some confidence after yesterdays race win, they couldn't carry it through today and by sealing the daily double in the first race, George Hackett's Mills 43 custom Misty Mountain wrapped up the IRC Class, despite not finishing the final race and relegated Rampage II to 2nd overall. Jun Avecilla's Beneteau First 36.7 Selma Star has been threatening all week to take a race win, and they finally broke through on the last race, to clinch the win by 16 seconds from Rampage II, to end up 3rd overall. Although Emerson Villena's Standard Insurance - PSA2 wrapped up the FarEast 28 class title yesterday, with a day to spare, they did not ease up and by winning both races today made a clean sweep of it, with 11 wins out of 12 races and dropping a 2nd place. This win is so big, that they not only become the 'Highest AYGP Scorer' at the regatta but off all time and catapulted them into 2nd overall in the 2018-19 AYGP Skipper and Yacht of the Year Rankings. Huff and puff all week, arch rival Ridgely Balladares Standard Insurance - PSA1, could not make an impression on Emerson and had to settle on a string of 2nd places for 2nd overall.

The battle for third place between Maria Evildoer - Hagedorn's Subic Sailing Club and Yukie Ikawa's Team Turquise Japan ended with Team Turquise Japan beating Subic Sailing Club in both races and claiming 3rd and 4th respectively.

Although China's Ren Fei on China Cup Ning Boo Fish Yacht Club trailed off towards the end, they still hold onto 5th overall. Third place in the final race, is a great result for Alein Choi's Team Poeima Hong Kong but they remain in 6th and Richard Lin's Team Taiwan Keelboat Ass. (TKBA) in 7th overall, have gained from the experience and no doubt go forward with confidence.

Summary
Although down on numbers in the big boats and earthquakes just prior to the regatta starting, the organisers must be commended for going through with the regatta. By turning it into a sailing festival and opening it to the public to experience, will hopefully promote the sport into the future and reward them for their efforts.
