Cup continues to deliver..
After a quick familiarisation (learn by mistakes) of the harbour marks in Subic Bay, Noel Chan's HH42 Rampage II went charging off on the long reaching legs, to set the pace in front of George Hackett's Mills 43 custom Misty Mountain. They both managed to some how get through the dead patch outside the harbour and returned into the breeze inside, to complete the shortened leg before the small boats could escape from the dead patch. Despite briefly running aground at the shallow spot before the Lighthouse finish line, Rampage II regained composure to take the daily double by 11 minutes from Misty Mountain. The other two, Jun Avecilla's Beneteau First 36.7 Selma Star and Albert Altura's Beneteau First 40 Hurricane Hunter did manage to finish the course, but two and three hours adrift of the leader.
They shortened the course for the sole Cruising Class entrant, Peter Capotosto's Beneteau First 31.7 Selma as they returned to the inner harbour, for the first time.
Emerson Villena's Standard Insurance - PSA2 continued on their winning ways and despite being recalled at the start line along with rival Ridgely Balladares on Standard Insurance - PSA1, Emerson recovered with a favourable wind shift to be victorious in all three races today. That gives them 9 wins out of 10 races and have wrapped up the FarEast 28 class title, with a day to spare. When asked about the winning formula the crew replied "We carry 6 crew within weight restrictions and have an extra set of hands to pull the strings. All the crew are experienced 420 and 470 dinghy sailors, with SEA Games medals and work well together on boat balance, speed and sail trim." All second places for Balladares on Standard Insurance - PSA1, leaves them eight points adrift of the leader and settling on 2nd overall.
The battle for third place between Maria Evildoer - Hagedorn Subic Sailing Club and Yukie Ikawa's Team Turquise Japan continues. With a 3, 3, 4 score line, Subic Sailing Club have overcome the one point deficit and are now tied on 31 points with Team Turquise Japan. All hinges on tomorrows two races for the third step on the podium.
Although China's Ren Fei on China Cup Ning Boo Fish Yacht Club remain in 5th overall Alein Choi's Team Poeima Hong Kong in 6th and Richard Lin's Team Taiwan Keelboat Ass. (TKBA) in 7th overall, they are learning from the experience and have improved in leaps and bounds.Last day tomorrow and the gala presentation dinner at The Lighthouse Marina Resort, has turned into a M1 Freedom Party concert to dance the night away.
