in the order after windward/leeward's
Ernesto Echauz's all Philippine crew on TP 52 Standard Insurance Centennial III accelerated around the course to claim two comfortable line honours, while his old boat now in the hands of Martin Tanco's Sydney 46 Centennial II eclipsed them by mere seconds in the handicap stakes, to take the IRC A overall lead. Tanco's Centennial II raced in close company with the Hackett family's Mills 43 Custom Misty Mountain and pushed each other to the limit, while Centennial III alone out in front, may have thought it was in the bag. This also allowed Hackett's Misty Mountain to take 2nd place on the second race and Centennial III to drop a further point in the overall stakes.
Determined to make up for yesterdays navigational error, Jun Avecilla's Beneteau First 36.7 Selma Star had the bit between the teeth and claimed both handicap wins, to go directly to the top of the IRC B pointscore. Despite spinnaker problems, Ricky Sandoval's Beneteau First 31.7 Selma still managed second place on the first race. Reveling in the stronger breeze and quick off the start line, Michael Ashbrook's Jeanneau 479 Sikta, with David Witt of Scallywag fame, pulling some strings, led the fleet across the line and slipped into 2nd place in the second race. Only two points now separates the overall score between the podium places.
Despite Eric Jurado's Ultimate 20 Alexa disappearing into the distance, when the handicaps were applied, David Wheeler's Cape Carib 31 Freewheeler comes out on top by a mere five seconds and are tied on three points at the top of the Cruising Class pointscore. Although lacking speed upwind Garry Kingshott's Fusion 40 Kerida made up some ground on the running/reaching legs, to cross the finish line in second place but reduced to third when the dealing is done.
Racing continues tomorrow with one point to point race for the IRC Classes and the Cruising Class.
