swings over to the progressive SE Asian Circuit...
We have also been busy promoting the AYGP at the China Cup Int Regatta sailing forum, keeping the AYGP pointscore up to date and making a few changes of our own. The AYGP Skipper and Yacht of the Year awards has attracted a lot of interest and as yacht racing and marine facilities are growing at an alarming rate in China, they want to have their own stand alone event included in the AYGP. One of the biggest requirements is to have some of the top IRC yachts that compete at other events in Asia, racing at the regatta. Discussions are ongoing about changing the CCIR dates to early October, more inline with the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club events and before the yachts depart on the biennial Hainan or Vietnam races.
Another change is dropping Championship from the AYGP Championship title, as Grand Prix is self explanatory and makes room for potential naming rights sponsor to be included. This year the points for a Single Race win has been increased to be inline with winning the class at multi race regattas. Several articles have been published in SEA Yachting and Asian Pacific Boating glossy magazines and reproduced in other popular online news services. Check out the AYGP Sponsorship Entitlements and Rights on offer.
After three AsianYachting Grand Prix (AYGP) pointscoring events and two top scoring Hong Kong regattas, Anthony Root's Red Kite II presently holds a 3.75 lead over Ray Roberts OneSails Racing in the race for the AYGP Skipper and Yacht of the Year awards. After a couple years break, Ray Roberts has made an impressive start to the 2013-14 campaign by winning the CCR Div A and second overall on the HK Vietnam Race. Paul Winkelmann's Judel Vrolijk HH42 Island Fling is in 3rd place, with the Hanning/ Jacobs/ Kendall/ McWilliam Ker 40 Signal 8 close behind in 4th place.
Top scoring yachts at the Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek, Peter Sorensen's Beneteau 44.7 Fuujin and John Newnham's Firefly 850 Twin Sharks have only raced one regatta and are only 7 and 8 points respectively off the pace. Some of these teams are contesting the Raja Muda, King's Cup, Royal Langkawi or Neptune Regattas, so it will be interesting to watch their rankings rise or fall after each event.
