20th February 2014: Although the leading contenders in the AsianYachting Grand Prix (AYGP), did not contest the Neptune Regatta, there's been some significant moves in the rankings by the mid-order runners. Victory for David Ross' Ker 40 KukuKERchu lifts them from 17th up to 6th place in the overall standings. As they intend contesting at least two more regattas and complete the six regatta quota, this result firmly places them in the running for the AYGP Skipper and Yacht of the Year awards.

Goto AYGP Skipper of the Year PointscoreThird place for Simon Piff's Ker 32 Rekering Dream, is the first entry for Rekering Dream but by contesting two other events with Rainbow Dream, elevates Simon Piff from joint 19th place to 10th place in the running for the individual AYGP Skipper of the Year award. By adding a second regatta to their tally, Peter Cremers Warwick 75 Shahtoosh rises to 20th place and now appears on the first page of the rankings.

AYGP Yacht of the Year PointscoreOthers to do well, are Jon Cray's Swan 42 Sea BASS climbing from 99th place to 30th in one foul swoop, Richard Eyre's Corsair C37 Zhuka from 110th place up to joint 25th place and best of all is Ramasamy Menon's Dehler 39 VG Offshore victory in the Cruising Class, taking them from 155th place up to 18th in the overall standings. This is Rama's first ever race win in his short sailing career and the jubilant Malaysian teams overall success will no doubt be the talk of the Royal Selangor Yacht Club bar for the rest of the year.

Action from other regattas can be accessed from the AY Photo Library.

Goto Boracay Race on FacebookNext up is the combined Subic to Boracay Race (Mar 1-3) and windy Boracay Cup (Mar 4-7) opening up proceedings in the Philippines. A close knit group of racers from Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia are renewing old rivalries and either opening their AYGP accounts for the season or planning to improve their standings, as we close in on the final five pointscoring regattas in the family of events.

Goto AYGP micrositeSo far this season, 233 Skippers and 223 yachts have scored points in the AYGP. The four remaining regattas include the biennial Asian blue-water classic Rolex China Sea Race from Hong Kong to Subic Bay in the Philippines, starting on 16th April and is quickly followed by the Commodore's Cup in Subic Bay from 22nd - 26th April. Before the two centrally located Top of the Gulf Regatta (May 1st - 5th) and season ending Samui Regatta (May 24th - 31st) brings the curtain down on another successful racing season.
