February 21st 2018: After being out of contact for a week during the Neptune Regatta, we return to find out its all change on the Philippine racing scene. President Duterte's call to close down Boracay hotels for health reasons, forced the Subic Boracay Race and Cup to be cancelled and keeping in line with the long passage race and inshore regatta format, have come up with the 200nm Subic Bay Around Verde Island Passage Race and the Subic Bay Cup Regatta.

Goto Subic Verde Race & CupDespite last minute air ticket and accommodation cancellations, most the original entries have adapted to the change and good to see International teams launching into the inaugural one design FarEast 28 class. This new event will replace Boracay as the 2017-18 Asian Yachting Grand Prix point scoring event this season.

Goto AYGP Skipper RankingsAlso cracking a smile on the dial, is Chris Mitchell and his Naut 40 Lady Bubbly, after winning 5 of the 6 races at the Neptune Regatta, have extended their lead in the AYGP Skipper Rankings and take over the lead in the AYGP Yacht Rankings from Otonomos Mandrake III by 7 points. It has taken 5 regattas to accumulate 52 points and as they aren't planning on contesting any more events, set the benchmark for the others to beat.

Presently holding onto 2nd place, John Newnham has competed with distinction on two events and the uncertainty of 3rd placed Ray Roberts racing plans, are capable of overhauling Chris Mitchell if they contest some of the remaining five point scoring events.

Goto AYGP Yacht RankingsBy participating on the Subic Bay Around Verde Is Race & Subic Cup, Fred Kinmonth, Geoff Hill and Ernesto Echauz all have a chance to leave their mark and close in on the leaders.

Goto AYGP Skipper RankingsAt this point in the 2017-18 Season, 281 Skippers and 270 Yachts have scored points by contesting at least one of the 8 point scoring events already held, that make up the family of 13 AYGP five star regattas/races each season.

Racing now moves over to the Philippines for the Subic Bay Around Verde Is Race & Subic Cup (Feb 23rd - March 2nd) and back to Hong Kong for the Rolex China Sea blue water classic, which is quickly followed by the Commodores' Cup (April 3rd - 7th) in Subic Bay, to complete the Eastern Circuit.
