August 4th 2016: Light, variable wind and strong tidal currents, resulted in only four races being completed at the 2016-17 Season opening Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek. As only two TP52's contested the top Racing Class 0, under the AYGP Scoring System, it also reduced the chances of scoring big on their first outing in anger. Consequently the winners of the classes that had five or more entries, now lead the AYGP by small margins. Three race wins for Alan Carwadine's Stealth 11.8 Asia Catamarans Hurricane in the Multihull Class and John Newnham's Twin Sharks in the Firefly 850 One-Design class has them tied on 13 points at the top of the table.

Goto AYGP Skipper RankingsAlso winning their classes with two wins, a five way tie exists between Scott Bradley's Sydney 40 Emagine, Niels Degenkolw's X3/4 Ton MK2 Phoenix, Jim Ellis' S&S 42 Remington, Clement Lim's Platu 25 Phuket Boat Lagoon Weasel and Mick Tilden's Corsair Pulse Pixalux Sudu Blue won all four races but their score is reduced, with only four boats in the class.

There is now a three month gap till the next point scoring event, at the China Coast Regatta on October 22nd - 24th and quickly followed by the Hong Kong to Hainan Race starting on November 3rd. This gives boat owners the opportunity to regroup and relocate their boat according to the campaign they are running.

Goto Raja Muda Selangor IntRegatta Big News this month comes from the Royal Selangor Yacht Club. This year’s Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta will see the addition of a new TP52 division, with a brand new RMSIR TP52 Cup for the winner. The TP52 division will require the yachts to compete over four consecutive days – a day of harbour racing in Penang, the passage race from Penang to Langkawi, and two days of harbour racing in Langkawi. TP52 owners can choose to compete solely in the very competitive four-day TP52 Division event, or in both the full IRC Class 1 racing and the TP52 Cup.
