Adams
- Radford 11.9 metre fibreglass cruising/racing sloop
Return
to Yachts
for Sale
In
1981 it was built to high standards particularly noticeable in its engineering
concepts, fixtures, fittings and machinery. Australian yards in general
enjoy a reputation as high quality boat builders. Constructed in 2 female
hull and deck moulds. The Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) hull is Airex
cored laid up by hand. The deck is end grain balsa sandwich cored. There
are 2 transverse bulkheads. All bulkheads are made integral with the hull
by being fully glassed.
The
vessel is masthead rigged sloop and equipped for world cruising. The sails
and rig are well designed for this size and type of boat.
The
accommodations below are well appointed and comfortable and well laid
out for ocean cruising and living on board for long periods of time. From
forward is a double berth with hatch overhead. This is followed by the
forward washroom to port with storage and anchor chain storage to starboard.
In the centre of the vessel is the main saloon consisting of settee and
folding table amidships. Aft of that is the navigation centre. Small but
functional galley on starboard side. The aft section is the pilot berth
followed by the lazarette. The engine is accessed under the companionway
steps.
The
hull configuration is raked stem with swim grid stern. At some stage the
boat has been lengthened. The underbody is fin keel leading to free-hung
rudder. Maximum beam is concentrated just aft of amidships. Typical of
this configuration she provide fast and comfortable sea-keeping qualities
to windward and reaching while exhibiting good directional stability downwind.

DECK
AND HULL
Hull
is laid up as follows: Below waterline hull is solid in way of keel joint.
Remainder of hull is GRP Airex Cored.
Deck is end grain balsa sandwich.
As
there are only two bulkheads hull strength is achieved by longitudinal
frames and floors on approximate 30 cm centers. Further strength is achieved
by 4 longitudinal stringers running full length of the boat. The hull
and deck as well as all bulkheads have been made integral with solid glass
connections as per good boat building practice.
BULKHEADS
& INTERIOR JOINERY
The
internal plywood bulkheads were inspected visually. No signs of working
and all found intact and in good condition.
Good
practical layout.
GALLEY
The
galley is located to starboard. It sits more or less slightly aft of centre
of floatation which means movement is kept to a practical minimum in a
seaway. It is equipped with most of the equipment required for cruising
or living on board for long periods of time.
Metholated
spirits 2 burner stove.

pressure fresh water fro Shur Flo 12VDC pump with carbon filter.
VENTILLATION,
ACCESS AND BILGES
Ventilation to all areas of the vessel is satisfactory. Ventilation to
the engine space is adequate. The living area is excellent with the hatches
open. Access to the bilges and through hull fittings is good.
MACHINERY,
FUEL TANKS AND FUEL SYSTEM
Kubota
3 cylinder 22 HP naturally aspirated marine diesel engine connected to
ZF Gearbox ratio 2:1. Engine hours 3,400. 60 amp alternator. Engine is
fresh water cooled through fresh water / seawater heat exchanger. Lucas
fuel filtration system is fitted. Shaft coupling is fitted with a new
coupling which then leads 1 s/s shaft to normal stern gland to cutlass
bearing to prop. Exhaust is a riser via hose connected to a water collector
lift muffler and exits above waterline.
Main
engine beds and longitudinal stringers are glassed integral with the hull
construction. Adjustable motor mounts are bolted to the stringers and
are utilized to adjust the propeller shaft alignment as well as to secure
the engine to the engine bed structure.
Engine
is regularly serviced every 100 hours. There is a comprehensive list of
spare parts on board.
There
is one aluminium fuel tank with a capacity of 60 litres. Located in the
amidships section forward of the engine. Filled from separate deck fitting.
Fuel flows from the tank via copper and neoprene fuel lines to the Lucas
primary fuel filter then the engine filter then direct to the engine injection
pump.
PLUMBING
The plumbing lines, valves, hoses and their securing clamps, water tanks,
pressure water pumps, and thru-hull fittings incorporating the plumbing
systems were inspected visually. All through-hull valves were tested
and all found free and operational Hose clamps found in good satisfactory
condition.
There
is one installed stainless steel water tank with a capacity of 150 litres
plus two potable 100 litre flexible tanks to be plumbed in.
