AYGP Skipper & Yacht of the Year Awards

Bill Bremner & Foxy Lady 6 crowned 2014-15 AYGP Skipper & Yacht of the Year
By AY MultiMedia
Regardless of dropping to second overall at the Samui Regatta, this result elevates Bill Bremner and Foxy Lady 6 into becoming the 2014-15 AYGP Skipper and Yacht of the Year. This is the first time since the all inclusive class era was introduced, that someone has defended the title and we could not be blessed, with such a worthy recipient. Winning four regattas and two second places is what earns them the title and respect from their competitors.

These results also lift some competitors up into the top ten Skippers in Asia for the 2014-15 Season. The final results are posted - See how your favourite sailing team fared in the 2014-15 AYGP Rankings, can be viewed by Skipper - Yacht - Regatta - Race Dates and Scoring System.

Despite the light air ending, the high standards set both on and off the water have been maintained throughout. The IRC racing classes have fought a close battle, with the final results decided on the last race, on the last day. It doesn't get much better than that.

Our moment of glory, presenting the 2014-15 AYGP Skipper and Yacht of the Year title and awarding the winner with the perpetual AYGP Cup filled with champagne and the embroidered Trend Fashions navy blue blazer to take home, is one of the highlights of this regatta.

Serious contenders for the title are already making plans for the coming season. Just ask any winning skipper and they will tell you "Winning the AYGP is the hardest task any racing crews can go though in Asian waters". They have to be in top form and compete with distinction in at least 6 regattas during the season, before celebrating the proudest moment of their racing careers.

Regatta / Race Line-up for the 2014-15 season
Goto Asian Sailing Calendar Twelve (12) regatta/races make up the 5 star family of events that form the AYGP. By popular demand this season, the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club's biennial Hainan Race and the San Fernando Race return to the race lineup. The Neptune Regatta made its debut last year and we again welcome Indonesia with a stand alone regatta, into the five star family of events.

That makes it 5 on the East Asian Circuit (Hong Kong China, Vietnam, Philippines) and 5 in South East Asian waters (Malaysia, Phuket SW Thailand, Indonesia) finishing up with the centrally located Top of the Gulf and Samui Regatta in the Gulf of Thailand. Boat owners are not restricted to regional events and are free to compete on both circuits and in as many events they choose to contest. As the championship is open to multiple classes, the degree of difficulty has just increased to a new and extremely challenging level.
