26 July - Australian Maid crossed the finish line in Benoa shortly after midnight at 00:17 hrs to win the Darwin-Bali Race on handicap from Helsal 11. Good conditions made for very exciting and close racing with only a few hours separating the two yachts at the finish after 4 days of racing. John Wardill's popular Australian Maid is said to have been reaching speeds of close to 20 knots and Helsal 11 topping 30 knots while surfing the large swells into Bali.

The Lasers Asia Pacific Championship is coming to Darwin! This is not a rumor the NT District Laser Class Association (NTDLCA), supported by the NTYA and the Darwin Sailing Club in North Australia have secured the Laser Asia Pacific Champs for Darwin from 17 to 24 May 2003. They will be sailed as a combined event with the regions2003 Arafura Games which also includes the sport of sailing as a competitive discipline.
