Classroom and Office Equipment
Black/white board and projector screen
Classroom big enough to have up to 10 large chart size tables and chairs

2. Boats required for Beginners, Day
Skippers and conducting Coastal Navigation Courses - (min requirement)
2 x 8m approved sailing yacht (SY) Miri
Magic's in sail away condition suitable for conducting Learn to
SAIL and Day-Skipper courses. Must have
personal floatation devices and capable of safely carrying 5 students,
1 assistant and 1 Instructor during daylight hours. To undertake Coastal
Courses boats with Interior accommodations capable of navigating coastal
routes and conducting overnight passages or One-Day assessments.
Extra
boats and equipment for conducting racing courses
2 x 5m ribs capable of carrying course
markers with starting equipment to conduct Inshore races.
1 x 26 to 30ft power craft to be used for participants seeking motor yacht
(MY) or speedboat licenses and official start boat for racing courses.

Courses to be offered
Learn to
SAIL with Asian Yachtmasters Course
Introduction to Sailing No experience necessary. Max 5 or 6 participants
plus 1 or 2 Practical Instructors per yacht.
10:00 to 12:30 - Classroom Theory Instruction
(Totaling 5 hrs over 2 days)
Lunch
14:00 to 16:30 - Practical Sailing Session (Totaling 5 hrs or more over
2 days)
The aim of this course is to provide a brief taste
of sailing for novices. By the end of a Two-day Course, participants will
have had a short introduction to the sport, including basic boat handling
techniques and a healthy dose of essential background knowledge thrown
in.
Day
Skipper
3-Day Skipper
Instruction and Examination (Must have logged 1 sailing season and some
helming experience)
Same daily schedule as CC and over
3-days the aim is to run budding sailors through the
basic knowledge of sailing (Levels 1 and
2 of the AY Syllabus)
with practical maneuvers and crew techniques including the all
important Man-Overboard recovery
and sail reefing, so that successful students will be safety conscious
and capable of skippering a yacht during day-light
hours in variable weather conditions and protected waters without an Instructor
on board. The Day Skipper - Certificate (up
to 12m LOA) will be awarded by the Principal or Instructor after the
Practical and Theory Sections in the logbook have been signed off as being
satisfactorily completed.
Coastal Yachtmaster Passages (Min 2-Day including overnight passage)
Basically an exercise in safe piloting and practical coastal navigation
(For experienced sailors only) The aim is to confirm basic
skills and develop confidence through
further techniques. It is
assumed that every student starting this course has already mastered the
practical skills and absorbed the background knowledge implied in the
Level 1 & 2 Syllabus.
By
the end of the course, the successful sailor will have a competent, safe, practical approach when in charge of a yacht
and will be capable of sailing and making seamanlike
decisions in moderate conditions up to 200 nautical miles offshore. Practical work will
be assessed on a continuous basis and an oral interview with short written
papers will be used as the basis for theory assessment. The Instructor
or the Principle of the yachting academy will award Level 3 Course Completion
Certificates to students as the Practical and Theory Sections are completed.
One-Day Assessments
for Coastal Yachtmaster
candidates (Up to 20m LOA) are asked to present at least 2,500nm
logged evidence as skipper or crew or at least two to three seasons
club experience to be qualified for assessment. He/she will satisfactorily
demonstrate a competent, realistic and purposeful approach to sailing,
including man overboard procedures. They will, whilst afloat and ashore,
be able to satisfactorily answer relevant questions of the Level
3 Coastal Yachtmaster syllabus. Endorsements can be signed
off by a AY Examiner to the level of
certification required (eg. Motor MY or Sailing SY, Boat Length and navigation methods)
during the assessment period.
Elite
Squad
Formation
of an Elite Squad for sailors that require specialized training
(i.e. Olympic dinghy classes) or have displayed exceptional sailing skills during periods
of Instruction or poses a natural talent for the sport. Elite
Squad students are selected and intensively trained
in specialized racing techniques and
strategy of the Coastal and Offshore
Yachtmaster Syllabus. The intention is to produce the best sailors
in performance racing, enabling them to form racing teams and pit their
skills against others at regional and national regattas at an International
Level of Competency.
Racing Courses
can be held mid-week for sailing teams wanting to hone up their crews
skills. Racing teams needing personalized training programs to proceed in their yachting endeavors may apply
to train with the Elite Squad. The squad shall train in offshore / inshore racing
rules and tactics to achieve sailing excellence in yacht racing.
